Dr. Min Hee Sophia Kim is an active and passionate flautist and educator. She graduated with her bachelor’s, master’s and Doctorate degree in flute performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Heather Verbeck Harrison, Randolf Bowman and Bradley Garner. At CCM, she was a member of the CCM Wind Ensemble, CCM Chamber Winds, the CCM Wind Orchestra, the CCM Concert Orchestra, and the CCM Philharmonia Orchestra. She has won several competitions, including the Yamaha Young Artist Competition in 2011 in USA and Grand prize winner for the Edu-Classic Concours in 2016, 2nd and 3rd place in the Tammora Student Musical Competition, and 2nd place in the Jeju Flute Society competition in South Korea. She participated in Vianden Music Festival in year of 2010, 2011 and 2012, and she performed in masterclasses for Mary Palchak, Demarre McGill and Jeffrey Khaner. Additionally, she has taken lessons with prominent flautists Laura Gilbert, Jeani Foster, and Hye sook Yang. Min Hee’s performances include a lecture recital titled “Jazz Melodic, Harmonic, and Rhythmic Language in Nikolai Kapustin’s Flute Works,” And played Solo flute with CCM Jazz Lab Band under director and former Ray Charles group, Craig Bailey. She also had her solo recital debut at Carnegie hall in 2016 and she was invited to be a guest artist for Seoul Leaders flute Orchestra, in Young San Art hall in South Korea in 2016. Min Hee published her Dissertation “Jazz Language in Through-Composed Chamber Works for Flute by Claude Bolling, Nikolai Kapustin, and Mike Mower.”in 2018 by University of Cincinnati and OhioLINK.
